Happy Earth Day, Gold Collectors!

Happy Earth Day, Gold Collectors!

It wasn’t entirely our intention to launch a fully sustainable business, but that is exactly what happened when we learned that there is a bin of gold scrap headed for melt. A happy accident you might call it. The initial discovery that refineries melt down pounds and pounds of estate jewelry every day was a bit of a shock and even more shocking that with a trade ID we could go digging ourselves before the epic treasures go into the fire. There is a lot there to be saved and as we kept going back for more, we knew we were on to something bigger than some great looking jewelry.

Saving real gold finds that would otherwise be melted down is a great way to not contribute to further mining and production of this very wasteful and energy consuming industry. Gold is a very durable metal and with some very low maintenance, your jewelry can be enjoyed and passed down for generations. Real gold also outweighs any plated or filled options which lose the gold finish quickly and require wasteful energy to re-plate in order to maintain the look. Vintage and antique pieces are super appealing because of their uniqueness and scarcity. The style is the draw but the sustainability is a major bonus. You can be stoked to be wearing amazing old pieces but you can also pat yourself on the back because by doing so, you are doing your part by making more intentional choices that don’t contribute to waste and mass production. So even if old gold appeals more to your aesthetic than the new stuff, it is also the smarter choice all around for our planet. And is supporting a small women owned business just as sustainable as the old gold itself? You know it is. Happy Earth Day to you and your sustainable collecting hobby!
